Did you know that certain herbs work with certain types of skin and hair? Whether you have an oily hair/skin or dry hair/skin there are herbs of choice that you have to shop when you pass by the herbal aisles. The following tips will help you decide what to put in your shopping cart when you purchase herbal products. In this manner you can choose the herbs that are right for you. However, do not be overwhelmed by the wide selection of herbs and go into panic buying. Just focus on one herb at a time that suits your present needs. Also, take note if you have "allergies". So, the best way to avoid allergic reactions is to read the labels of every packaging before you purchase them and use them at a later time.

Hair. First, buy a mild or unscented shampoo. It is a fact that baby shampoo contains fewer ingredients than the adult products. This means that baby shampoois a great choice. Now dilute the shampoo you bought in the grocery by half with water. Add 20 drops of essential oil. Shake this blend, pour a quarter size amount into your palms, and then massage it into your wet hair. Rinse with warm water. Dry hair needs moisturizing herbs so it will be shiny and restore hair body. Oily hair needs to stop and prevent the greasy look. Normal hair can benefit from herbs to achieve more luster and shine. Also, there are herbs for dandruff to take away the flakes.

Hair type Herbal shampoos

Dry Calendula, rosewood, sandalwood

Oily Basil, lemongrass, mints, sage

Normal Chamomile, lavender, rosemary

Dandruff Geranium, myrrh, sage

Skin. Whether it is the dry, cold winter season or the hot, humid summertime, we have to care for our skin. Simply follow this basic recipe that works for both oily and dry skin.

First, put a handful of dried herbs into a 1-pint glass mason jar. Then fill the jar to nearly the top with vegetable oil. Twist the lid tightly. Place the jar somewhere in a warm place, maybe near your stove. Now, every morning, give the jar a vigorous shake. Do this everyday for a couple of weeks. Next, you open the jar and strain out the herbs using a fine mesh sieve. Finally, add a few drops of your chosen essential oil herbs and mix well. And now you have your own customized massage oil to rub daily into your skin.

Dry skin: almond, apricot or grapeseed oil; dried leaves or flowers of calendula, chamomile, comfrey, lavender, and roses plus a few drops of lavender essential oil.

Oily skin: almond or apricot oil; dried leaves or flowers calendula, comfrey, lavender, raspberry, rosemary, and sage plus a few drops of rosemary essential oil.
