How to deal with the aftermath of Thanksgiving: Digestive problems

by Marmee Cosico

Created on: December 05, 2009

Entertaining this Thanksgiving holiday season is a good form of relaxation that brings only great pleasures in our hearts. Having a crowd in your house with this family and friends get together was indeed a good way to casually socialize. We celebrate this holiday once again with food in overflowing abundance. Baked hams, whole filets of beef, roasted turkey, filet mignon with wild rice, potted cheese, chicken sesame, Italian or Middle Eastern Antipasto, oriental vegetables, assorted fresh fruits and special holiday desserts. It is not bad that you engaged in this family holiday feasting as long as you maintained a healthy and weight controlling diet.

The art of serving has been exhibited in this holiday feastings in a profound manner. We served our guests with our love along those foods we prepared on our kitchens. It is both physically and psychologically satisfying to bring happiness over the dining table. Sharing meals and conversations while cooking together as one family is the time to reach out with our relatives and friends. Holiday mealtime is always considered by others as a ceremony worth lingering over compared to the busy career lives in the city like New York. It is only during this holiday meals where we put such significance over the foods we eat in a "ritualistic manner".

Eating is a fundamental source of pleasure which is very biological in nature. Eating is one of the most sensuous of all human activity aside from sex. Food should be prepared with love and joy of cooking so that the end product would be a "hearty and savory meal". Some says we have to eat for sustenance and proper nourishment. Eating satisfies all our senses where it does not only appeal to our "palate" but also on the visual, olfactory, kinesthetic and even on the auditory level especially when we hear the sound of food.

Now we have to take full responsibility for keeping our bodies in excellent health conditionsby eating nutritious foods. We have to know when our body cannot handle too much food anymore. Understanding our body signals to stop overloading it with rich and heavy foods or else we will pay for the price. There are always consequences in our actions. Take note that difficulty with digestion is one of the most common problems in our middle adulthood until our later years.
