If it weren't for "political correctness", thirteen innocent servicemen and women would be alive today and a fellow serviceman named Hasan, a Muslim who resented being in the Army, would not have had the chance to carry out his "jihad" - his plan to kill and be killed.
The concept that we should not express our honest opinions or speak openly about controversial issues because "someone's feelings might get hurt", is an asinine reason to keep quiet about something that is outrageous. Thirteen innocent people were killed as a direct result of "political correctness" and now we can't say that the man who did this was a Muslim terrorist and a cold blooded killer, because why?
For a very stupid, self-serving reason, that's why. God forbid certain ethnic and/or religious groups get "upset" by hearing the truth and call us "prejudiced or "racist" for speaking out in anger about the massacre.
The man who went on to kill thirteen fellow servicemen and injure over thirty more had made anti-American speeches and spoke of carrying out his own "jihad" in the months before the shooting but no one reported his behavior, Why not? They were "afraid" that they be seen as "prejudiced" or "racist".
The military personnel who had intercepted repeated e-mails between Hasan and a radical Muslim cleric who encouraged Muslims to kill U.S. troops in Iraq decided that those e-mails were "innocent" - they didn't want to confront or question the man for the same reasons - fear of being called prejudiced or racist.
"Political correctness" killed thirteen innocent people who didn't have to die and the ones who stayed silent will have their blood on their hands for the rest of their lives.
This "don't say anything that might upset someone" mind set is what will destroy us as a people and a nation. If we are to prevent that from happening, we must stop the stupidity and address anything that doesn't look or sound right immediately - and honestly.
The words "racist" or "prejudiced" won't kill you but bullets will - thirteen innocents are dead if we need a heartbreaking example. We as Americans can and must change the way we view "political correctness" but our government won't be changing any time soon.
As quickly as the media coverage and the uproar began, after the nation had word of the slayings a day or so later, little more was seen or heard in the news about the tragedy. Obama stated that the man must 'not' be called a "terrorist" even though he most definitely 'was' a terrorist and ordered that the man be tried in a regular court, rather than be prosecuted by the Army. EXCUSE ME ?
This man was a soldier in the U.S. Army - he was in Army uniform when he went to kill his fellow soldiers, he carried out his "jihad" while in uniform - he should be charged with treason, terrorism and first degree murder by his own Army!
Our great nation will have to depend on the American citizens for survival - our President prefers to turn his head and extend his hand in friendship to our enemies when they attack us. When everyone demanded answers as to how this tragedy was allowed to happen and Congress wanted to start a full scale investigation to find out why nothing was done to alert anyone about Hasan's aberrant behaviors months before the killing, Obama urged Congress to hold off any investigation, pleading with them, and I quote to "resist the temptation to turn this tragic event into political theater".
Oy!
God save us all - our President can be depended on to do nothing.
