Poetry: Heroes

Martin Luther King

I am powerful and unstoppable in the face of adversity.

I wonder why color translates to quality.

I hear the cries of injustice upon my people.

I see a world where black and white is one.

I am powerful and unstoppable in the face of adversity.

I pretend to hold the hands of my ancestors as they are lashed.

I feel like a strong tiger in a cave full of lions.

I touch the boundary between heaven and earth.

I worry about the way my children will be treated when I am gone forever.

I cry when an injustice is done to any human in any corner of the world.

I understand hate, as I have been hated, and to my own dismay, hated others.

I say I have a dream.

I try to turn that dream into an explicit reality.

I hope in the cradle of heaven, whites and blacks will embrace each other in brotherhood, for in the end, we are all brothers at the right hand of God.

I am powerful and unstoppable in the face of adversity.
