I probably think too much about food. I cook from scratch every day of the week. Ever since my childhood, when I delighted in bag upon bag of salt and vinegar potato chips, I have admired at least three or four favored foods. Since growing into middle age, my tastes have changed though, especially since turning vegetarian last year.
1. Fruit
Although this would probably not be top of many lists, I cannot help but put it top of my own. I grow my own strawberries in the garden. To taste a just-picked berry, sweet, juicy, and real, I feel is unbeatable. I also adore cherries and lychees, which alas I cannot grow at home. If I made my own fruit salad, it would be a combination of these three fruits - extremely healthy, but also expensive. Other fruits I particularly enjoy include frozen cranberries, dried figs and dates, and melon.
2. Vegan ice-cream
I make my own ice-cream predominantly using frozen berries. It is the quickest ice-cream recipe I have heard of, yet suited to vegans, kids, and also those seeking a sugar-free or low-fat diet. You simply pour 200-300g frozen berries into a bowl and stir in a half can of coconut cream. The coconut cream can be lite if you are weight-watching, but I prefer it unadulterated. The frozen berries set the cream and the dish is ready. It is delicious, especially on a hot summer day.
3. Brussels sprouts
This is an item that very rarely appears on anyone's favorite foods list. Since my teenage years,I have loved this unpopular vegetable. I have not had much success in growing my own, but if the shop stock does not cost too much, I will grab 500g or more per week. They are high in nutritional value and noted as possibly assisting with prevention of cancer and heart failure, but it is the taste that attracts me.
4. Olives
I never tried olives as a child, nor as a teen. I do not think I tried them until I ordered them on a pizza about two decades ago. since then, I have delighted in munching at least one jar a month. I like both green and black olives, but prefer them to be ready-stoned. do not much enjoy spitting stones, even if I generally dine alone. I find the salt-tang taste delicious. I will eat stuffed olives straight from the jar as a healthy snack or the black sliced olives piled up very high on a home made pizza. Since turning predominantly vegan a few months ago, olives are important health wise to me. I need the olive oil they contain to keep my skin healthy.
5. Thai Curry
I enjoy a lot of Thai foods, mostly home-cooked.
