Say cheese! Who doesn't want a mouth full of gorgeous pearly whites? The biggest part of having a beautiful smile is bright white teeth. Getting your teeth to that perfect shade of white is not always easy or inexpensive. Unless you eat everything that is good for you and drink nothing but water. Most any liquid you consume besides water can stain your teeth. For example, coffee, tea, soda, and some fruit juices. Smoking and other tobacco products also cause stains as well.
White teeth are very difficult to achieve with out some method of cosmetic whitening. Most cosmetic procedures performed in a dentist office can cost anywhere from around $400 up to $1000 per visit. This procedure can also take more than one treatment to achieve the shade of white you are looking for. Of course there are many over the counter gels, paste and strips but these too can become very expensive over time. These methods can also slowly wear away the enamel on your teeth making them thin and more prone to cavities and other problems.
One of the best ways to maintain not only the coloring of your teeth but the overall health is to be sure to brush and floss at least two times a day. Preferably after breakfast and before you go to bed at night. You can use a whitening toothpaste for better results, but don't expect to see anything over night. As mentioned before try to refrain from using tobacco products and cut back on the coffee and sodas. Not only is drinking more water good for your teeth, it's good for your body. Your body is made up of mostly water, and functions normally when your water supply is replenished.
An at home remedy that you can try to whiten your teeth is the good old fashioned baking soda and peroxide. Be extra careful when using this remedy as there are both pros and cons. This method is very inexpensive, usually less than $5 will buy you a bottle of peroxide and a small box of baking soda that will last you probably about a year. It is relatively effective if used about 3 times a week. You can usually see results within the first couple of weeks. As for the downside of this method, it can also be hard on your teeth and cause thinning of your enamel. This product can also be hazardous if accidentally ingested. Do not allow small children to use this product. The best way to avoid accidental ingestion is to dip your tooth brush in the peroxide then dip into the baking soda. Do not try and make a premixed paste. This can provide too much product and is also waste full.
A beautiful smile is one of the best physical traits a person can have, so remember, take good care of your smile and it will take care of you!
