Essence of December in Australia...
Gum nut bells dangle in disorganized bunches
between cheerful crimson tassels
strung from delicate silvered boughs
Seasonally spiced, heavily textured aromas
drift on warm pillows of humidity rising
from leaf littered, intermittently showered earth
Streams of gold sprinkle through the canopy
to alight in shimmering dapples
over a happy tangle of nodding wildflowers and ferns
Above
glimpses of clear cloudless blue
complete the scene
A honeyeater sings in praise
feasting on the sweetness of all it surveys
while Mother Nature delights
in her unassumingly decorative
December creation
