A sporting event can be a great deal of fun for thousands of people as fans gather to cheer on their team. Of course, with that many people in one spot, there is likely to be some sort of problem or situation that involves danger. Obviously no one goes to a sport event with the intention of finding tragedy, but sometimes things just happen. If people are smart and take a few precautions, they can increase their chances of getting through the event unscathed. Therefore, here are a few thoughts on how to stay safe on the road before and after a sporting event.
Alcohol
Unfortunately, alcohol and sporting events just seem to go together. While some people will argue that they are "just having a good time," history has shown that humans cannot handle their liquor. Too many people have very little self control, and they have no qualms about consuming large quantities of alcohol before, during, and after the event. In order to increase safety at a sporting event, people should temper their alcohol consumption and always be aware that there will be people around who are not in control.
Leave early
Sometimes it is best to leave a sporting event a little early. Granted, people do not want to miss the action of a good game, but there are situations where the outcome is determined long before the end of the contest. Leaving early may increase safety and it may also help with convenience. Rather than sit in a traffic jam, people may be able to leave the stadium or arena in a much shorter period of time and make it home without battling thousands of cars.
Minimize the decor
Obviously, some fans like to dress up and root for their favorite team. In addition, some people decorate their vehicles to show their loyalty and support. This may be fine in certain circumstances, but it can also make people targets if they combine wardrobe elements with comments to other fans. Again, some people are not always smart about what they say, and when alcohol is added to the equation, there can be conflicts. This can be a particular problem if people visit rival stadiums. Therefore, people can root for their teams, but they have to be smart about it.
Patience
Finally, people will be much safer if they are willing to exercise a bit of patience. When people get upset about game outcomes, fans, and traffic, they can start to make bad decisions. Rather than experiencing a conflict or high blood pressure, people should try to put the situation in context and realize that these types of things are not really worth getting in a car crash. Overall, if people take some precautions they can usually do just fine. Unfortunately, some fans have been fortunate enough to avoid bad situations in the past, so they continue to take risks that put themselves and other people in danger.
