Along with information on digital cameras for kids, the site also has a section called "Our World" which is dedicated to teaching kids about nature, animals, and science. Hopefully the content will expand soon allowing kids to explore a lot more learning in this area. featured articles right now include the Elelphant Seals of San Simeon and an artcile ona car that runs off laptop batteries.
Herbies Hints is another fun feature of this website. "Herbie" referres to a Jack Russell Terrier that teaches simple techniques, tricks, and tips to a young audience. Things suchs as managing auto focus and getting brighter colors are explained in simple terms for young children to understand.
There's also a buyers guide to digital cameras that is geared specifically with kids in mind. When buying a camera for a younger child, you're going to have a different agenda while looking for a camera. The batteries to operate the camera should be a standard type such as AA or AAA batteries. Kids often forget to bring batteries and it's nice to be able to stop on the fly and pick up battereies at just about any store. Internal memory is always nice incase they forgot (or lost ) the memory card. The memory card is another factor to consider while choosing a camera for a child. try to find a camera that uses a common type of memory such as Compact Flash or Secure Digital (CF or SDRAM). These memory cards can be bought very cheap and are available at almost any big box stores and many smaller ones. Durability is important with smaller kids especially. Examine the case, doors, and buttons to see if the camera will hold up well under being drop, tossed, or lost. Some cameras for kids are now 'water resistant' as well. Try to find a camera with different shooting modes on an external dial.... sunset, portrait, landscape, macro, and other presets should be on a simple dial so younger kids don't get frustrated trying to go through the menu options.
