Nothing is more of a tradition than putting Christmas lights on a beautiful Christmas tree. This tradition has changed significantly in recent years, leaving many people wondering if they should resist or embrace this change. The change is, of course, the introduction of LED Christmas lights. These lights are loved by some, and hated by others. Before you make up your mind, you should consider the advantages of this relatively new product.
The first advantage of LED Christmas lights is the energy savings that you will enjoy. LED Christmas lights use a mere fraction of the electricity that traditional Christmas lights use. One report that I read stated that for 600 incandescent bulbs to run for one month under normal conditions, it costs $90.72. For 600 LEDs to run for that same time, it would cost only $1.24. With savings like this, it is easy to see how quickly the money can add up, not to mention the fact that LEDs are far better for the environment.
Another great advantage of LED Christmas lights is the reduction in risk of fire in your home. LEDs do not heat up, and as a result, they are far less likely to ignite other objects around them, such as a dry Christmas tree. This is a significant advantage over traditional Christmas lights, as this is a risk that has always been present in homes that have live Christmas trees. The other thing that reduces the risk of fire is the lower electrical use of the LEDs. As a result of the lower power consumption, there is less strain on the electrical system in your home, and as a result, less chance of an electrical fire.
Now, there are many people that believe the downside of these new lights outweigh the advantages. This may have been true when they first came out, but since that time, the technology has improved greatly. LEDs are now better than ever, and are a much more viable solution than ever before. One disadvantage of LED's is that the light produced is not as nice of as "glowing" as traditional light bulbs. For people that believe this, there has been the introduction of a new LED this year that is specifically designed to produce this type of warm, glowing light. The technology has truly evolved to be better in every way than their incandescent counterparts.
In conclusion, it is clear that LED Christmas lights have many advantages over traditional lights. They are cheaper, safer, and rarely burn out. It is also clear that the time for a change has come, and embracing that change is the best option. It is also important to consider that if you do not choose to embrace this technology now, you may not have a choice in the future. The current trend in government seems to be to make normal incandescent bulbs illegal, and it is only a matter of time before this happens all over North America!
