Preacher Man
11 February 2067 22.47 Friday.
Hallway outside of the Residential Wing
Mutant Military Corps, Hamilton, Montana.
Karl walked out of his quarters, a six pack in his hand, one out of the plastic loop and in his hand. He popped the top while in the hallway and chugged a large slurp down while en route to Mike's quarters. He'd figure he'd rub it in a little bit, they would share a few beers and call it good, plenty of time to get up in the morning.
As he went down the hallway, he saw a Striker's Vertical Take Off and Landing fire, and drop to the ground. The ship was somewhat unstable, and rocking back and forth.
Karl dropped the six pack at Rick's door and ran outside.
The beast leveled out and then dropped down, the back blast vaporized snow.
The side door opened, and Juan stepped out, his normally immaculate demeanor disheveled.
Technicians swarmed and Karl ran up wanting to help. In Juan's hand he held a square cube of about fifteen centimeters.
"I need a shell, stat. I'm not sure what memory loss might have occurred, and we won't know that until we get him into a shell." Juan demanded.
Two technicians scrambled headed back toward the dormitory area and headed down toward Sheldon's apartment.
Juan spoke into his com link, "Claire, voice verification, Sanchez, Juan, Lieutenant Major, MMC. I have seized command of the base temporarily in accordance with act seventeen-point-two of the chain of command."
Claire spoke back to him, "Command confirmed."
Juan looked up as Karl was running toward him.
"Good timing, Karl. I need you to get in there, and assess the damage done to Sheldon's body. I think it's a power cell breach, but I'm not sure. The Striker couldn't detect any residual radiation, so that's in our favor."
"I'm on it, Juan," he said, climbing the stairs into the Striker.
In the back, lay the crushed body of MeKann. His face was lifted up, and the space in the skull where the cube would have been was eerily visible. Through the chest plate was a six inch hole about where the navel would be on a human.
Wires, connections were sparking.
Karl reached his hand in, and they drained into his body. Instantly he could asses the different variables of voltage, positive and negative. He remembered when he was back in the infirmary and had shifted into his alter form, he had assimilated as much knowledge as he could, and that included knowledge about Sheldon's robotic form.
He reached back into his Roman room. In the span of two heartbeats he went past
