Product reviews: Lakeland Spider Catcher

Well before I tell you all about this product I will tell you why I bought it. The main reason is that I hate spiders, I can't go to sleep in my bedroom if I know that a spider is on the wall. I have this worry that it's going to climb on me in the middle of the night! I have always hated spiders and when I was younger I had to get my mum and dad to remove them and now I am older it's my husband who gets the task. However what would I do if I found a spider and there was no-one in the house? In the past I have on occasion managed to put a jar over them and wait until my husband returned but now having a dog he would knock over the jar and free the spider. So I decided I needed something to help with the task and had a look at the various spider catchers out there. The best I found was in Lakeland and is called the Spider Catcher or Spider and Bug Buster.

It is a battery operated special vacuum that will lift up the spider or bug into the tube. It looks a bit like a Star Wars light sabre. It has a plastic blue handle and then a clear tube. The tube has an extension piece so you can make it 59cm long. This means that you don't have to come too close to the bug in question. It is on sale in Lakeland, I am not sure if you can buy it in other places. It costs 9.78 which does sound expensive but if you read on you will see that it is really good. It comes complete with the battery so its ready to use.

It's really easy to use. First locate your spider, easy enough to do the hardest bit is trying not to scream. Then run and get your bug buster. Attach the tube to the handle, I always have mine disconnected as then it fits in a drawer and remove the blue cap at the end. As you move the bug buster towards the bug press the button to activate the vacuum, keep this pressed as you tip the bug buster upwards and put the cap on the end. The spider is now safely inside the tube and cant get you. You can now safely dispose of the beastie in whichever way you see fit. For me it's usually out of the window so it can live to see another day, I don't like dealing with dead spiders either so this is the best option for me!

I think this is a great product and one which has been used many times in our house. We use it not just for catching spiders but also for catching flies and wasps especially during summer months when you have your windows open. We have always managed to vacuum up the insects and managed to safely get rid of them. It's much better than using fly or wasp sprays which I don't like to use as I have a dog and don't know how toxic they are. The bug buster runs on a 9volt battery and we have had ours a few years and haven't changed the battery yet.

I would recommend this product to you if you are scared of spiders but also even if you aren't it's fantastic for dealing with those pesky wasps and flies as the long handle makes it easier to catch them and better than swatting them and having to clean up afterwards. The only downside about it is that it comes in a cardboard box that has a couple of horrible pictures of the bug buster catching spiders. The majority of people who are buying this don't like spiders so the last thing they want to see is a big scary spider I have had to cover the spider on the box whilst I write this review!
