How my garden helped me learn about love or survive its loss: Anecdotes

Last summer I decided to plant a garden in my back yard. I took my shovel and got to work, clearing a space for my plants to grow. Most people might think it is easy to keep and maintain a garden.......if you think this you are wrong my friend. Gardens can be back breaking work but are very rewarding and tought me much about myself that I did not even know before hand. It was August of 2008 when I thought to myself, "I would really like a garden." That day I went to a local gardening store to see want seeds I could find. I ended up buying a package of red roses, my favorite. Before I had decided to make a garden, I did not have any prior knowledge of the work, or plants I should use. Later that afternoon I drove home. I went to my back yard where I hud teadiously dug up a square plot of land earlier. I fetched a garden hose and some soil for planting the roses. A dug up five little holes in the ground, plopped the seeds in, covered them with soil, and sprinkled them with a couple little drops of water. I then went inside, my mind filled with thoughts of how the flowers would turn out. The next day I peeped out my window, and saw that the little buds had already started to peek their little heads out of the dark soil. Another day went by with little progress. Then a third day, and a fourth. Soon it had been a week with almost no progress. Then, I was almost completely ready to give up on the plants when suddenly I remembered a saying my grandma always said, "A watched pot never boils" I decided to stop paying such close attention and let them grow on their own. Surely enough the next week my roses were fully grown and they looked absolutely beautiful. Their radiant colors shined through the sky entrancing me. I was so happy that day when my roses finally sprouted.

The lesson in the story is that plants, just like children or loved ones, require lots of effort and patience to turn out just the way you want them to and the finished product can amaze you if you give it time, love, and care.
