Golf is one of those sports that leaves you with a feeling of either love or hate. Me? Well I am firmly in the former camp, I can see beauty in the game right from the swagger of the overweight bank manager as he swings furiously at the little white ball somewhere beneath is expanding paunch to the frustrated youngster who stamps and frets at missing another one under par. All these people should all just take a few minutes to stop, look and listen and to enjoy some of the best golf courses available in the world and the selection here at all in Spain where the skies are blue and the coastal winds are favorable.
Real Club de Campoamor, Costa Blanca
Real Club de Campoamor: Like many golf courses on the Costa Blanca this one is relatively new having been first established as recently as 1989. The course is laid out as an 18 hole course complete with a four star hotel and an exceptional restaurant serving some of the finest food in the region. But, the golf is the reason visitors come here to play on the par 72 course and with distant views of the sea, which is a comparatively short four kilometres away.
El Paraiso near Marbella
The greens are stunning on this course, one of the oldest in Spain, having been created by golf legend Gary Player in 1973. The course is again laid out as a par 71 eighteen hole course with many interesting hazards and bunkers to try and stay clear off. The course is lined by palms, pines and oleanders. Again at its heart the course has a marvelous clubhouse with a wide range of amenities for professional and amateur golfer alike.
Los Naranjos Golf Club, Nueva Andalucia
If you're loaded with cash and have the odd Learjet in a hanger somewhere, then perhaps this is the golf course for you. Los Naranjos is one of the best golf courses in Spain, if not the world for that matter. The course was designed by Robert Trent Jones Senior and includes a huge number of challenges for even the most experienced golfer to master. The course was only opened in 2009 and already has gained a massive reputation for excellence, which also extends to the golf school and the club restaurant, which is one of the finest restaurants of its type on the Costa del Sol.
