On Black Friday, millions will be shopping the Black Friday sales but millions as well will be pulling out the Thanksgiving leftovers. Favorite dishes are usually welcome as Thanksgiving leftovers once, but as the weekend goes on, they start to lose their appeal. How can you give your Thanksgiving leftovers a makeover?
Many people are attracted to growing or buying fresh herbs but then wonder just how to use them. The common question is "how do you know which fresh herbs to use when?"
Here are some guidelines for using fresh herbs and tips for dressing up your Thanksgiving leftovers with fresh herbs.
Leftover Turkey Makeovers:
Turkey, Tomato & Basil Sandwiches:
Leftover turkey is suited for a sandwich or wrap but let's face it, a turkey sandwich can be bland. Fresh basil is an awesome accompaniment for any dish with tomato and adding some fresh basil leaves to a turkey and tomato sandwich or wrap can put some pizzazz in your leftover turkey sandwich. Parsley, which is high in vitamin C and brings out the flavor of other herbs, is also a good choice for a turkey sandwich.
Turkey Noodle Soup with Fresh Rosemary:
Fresh rosemary is an excellent partner for chicken or turkey and a great enhancement for soups. Adding chopped rosemary will add flavor to your favorite turkey noodle soup recipe. Rosemary can also be paired up well with rice so you can add it to your favorite turkey and rice soup recipe too.
Turkey Casserole with Fresh Tarragon and Sage:
Fresh tarragon and sage are both good choices for chicken, pork and even when you're talking turkey. Use fresh tarragon and/or sage to give new life to your turkey leftovers in your favorite turkey casserole recipe.
Turkey Tetrazzini with Oregano:
Oregano isn't just for spaghetti. Oregano goes well in most any pasta dish. Adding some fresh oregano to your favorite turkey tetrazzini recipe takes it from "been there, done that" to "more please."
Turkey Salad with Fresh Dill:
Turkey salad is a favorite use for leftover turkey but if you're family needs something along the lines of an anti-pumpkin pie spice flavor, some fresh dill can get the job done.
Of course you have more than Thanksgiving turkey to makeover. You can redress and liven up Thanksgiving side dishes with fresh herbs too.
Cranberry Sauce with Fresh Mint:
Re-puree the cranberry sauce with fresh mint and an orange to give this Thanksgiving leftover a comeback.
Potatoes with Parsley and Chives:
If you've all had enough gravy, it's time to give those leftover potatoes a healthy and tasty makeover. Fresh parsley and chives can dress up yesterday's mash in a jiff.
