Poetry: Fairy tales

Once upon quite long ago
There lived a maid called Ugly Flo
This homely girl had daddy's nose
And sported cousin Hector's toes

Her hair was stringy, dull as soup
The laughing stock of every group
Her teeth were yellow and full of holes
And on her chin she had four moles

Both ears stuck out, her eyes were crossed
So into the kitchen Flo was tossed
All day long she'd scrub and clean
Her spiteful family was very mean

One day Flo could take no more
And snuck away through the scullery door
She ran as fast as her toes would let her
As guards were sent to go and get her

Though Flo was ugly, she was not dumb
And with a thorn branch pricked her thumb
The blood ran red on the hillside moor
And out popped a creature she'd not seen before

He was handsome and tall and very kind
But deaf as stone and also blind
He helped her escape her terrible life
Then modestly asked her to be his wife

She lived quite happily with this muted male
And this is the end of my fairy tale
There must be a moral and so I'll say
You must live to love another day
