As every woman is different, as is the variety of gifts that can be given. One timeless gift is scent. Decades ago that usually meant perfume, but now it encompasses lotion, powder, candles or bath salts. Most women have a favorite type of scent, be it floral, musky or citrus. If she has a favorite singer or actress, chances are they manufacture a perfume. Halle Berry, Sarah Jessica Parker, Britney Spears and Jennifer Lopez are a few of the celebrities who have their own perfume lines that she might enjoy.

A new idea with fragrance this year is the Antiquity DNA perfume line. For roughly $60 plus tax and shipping you can purchase a perfume designed from the DNA of Marilyn Monroe, or many other famous celebrities no longer with us. This does not mean the fragrance is made from their DNA, just that their DNA code has been used to create a fragrance. This line will be sold in stores next year. By the way, Marilyn usually smelled like Chanel No. 5. Another option from this company is a completely personalized perfume. A swab kit is sent out and the scent is made based on the person's DNA.

Another timeless gift is jewelry. Real or costume, jewelry can make an outfit. Popular trends this year are wide cuffs, necklaces in metallics, large chandelier and hoop earrings, and huge (clearly fake) cocktail rings. Gold is extremely expensive this year, with people have in-home gold-selling parties much like the Tupperware parties of yore, so silver remains the winner.

Books, music and DVD's are another good choice for her. Does she enjoy the Twilight series about vampires? Get her the movie soundtrack, DVD of the first movie and all four books if she does not have them. (Also think about vampire-type jewelry.) If she likes comedy and mystery, Janet Evanovich has a series of 15 Stephanie Plum novels, which are super funny and always on the best seller list. An iTunes gift card is a great idea for any music lover, as they can download whatever songs they like. As far as movies, 'Angels and Demons' just came out, along with 'Four Christmases' and 'Funny People.' Check Amazon for all titles of books, music or DVD's.

A box of Godiva chocolates or a good bottle of wine are also appreciated gifts. If she loves to cook, you can make up a basket of gourmet foods and include a vintage-looking apron. In fact, any type of basket can be made for her special interests. If she loves to go out, tickets to a show would be welcome along with a pretty sweater and necklace. An art lover would like paints, clay, special art paper and a DVD about the Louvre.

Gifts come in all shapes and sizes, but whatever you give her, include a kiss and a hug.
