Why on earth should President Bush or any person today apologize for something that was started one hundred fifty or more years ago and no longer exists in our society today?
What in God's name is wrong with people today? To even suggest that President Bush should apologize for the sins of our ancestors is just plain ludicrous..
The ones who should apologize are dead and it's time for the issue of slavery in America to be laid to rest also. No one "owes " anyone anything and it's high time that all people understand that..
Unfortunately, the past history of slavery has remained in the forefront for lots of black people and has been thrown in the face of white Americans for many years Black leaders have made a point of using slavery as the reason for why they feel that America "owes" the black people something and we have been bending over backwards to please them, afraid to speak out if a black person can't do a job well so as to avoid "upsetting" anyone and be called a "racist".
There is nothing "racist" about telling a group of people that we will not apologize for something we did not do. There is nothing "racist" about telling them that their ancestors are the only ones who are owed an apology and it would come from those who enslaved them and no one else. My ancestors were Vikings and they plundered and killed people throughout the world. If anyone were to tell me that I owed them an apology for what my ancestors did I would laugh in their face.
We need to stop giving in to demands and give certain groups a "pass" to jobs without having to prove that they have the knowledge and the experience to do the job well.. We need to stop holding onto those workers who don't do a job as well as is expected of everyone else but are not fired because the employer is fearful of being accused of "racism".
Right now it's time to level the playing field and jobs should go to those who prove that they deserve them with past experience and the knowledge necessary to do the job well, regardless of race or skin color. Businesses need people, not skin color, to work and make the business successful .
It's also time to let everyone concerned, once and for all, that no one today will apologize for the sins of our ancestors . We must and we will take responsibility for each of our own actions in this lifetime - but we have no responsibility and will not take responsibility for any crimes done before our lifetime. If we need a government issued statement to convince everyone that we mean business, Mr. President, make it so.
