As a professional freelance writer, I know how tedious writing full-time can become. Even when you are passionate about writing, it is an activity that tends to zap your creativity, which can quickly lead to boredom when you do it every day. Writing also tends to be a solitary profession, which means there is little social interaction to break up your day and help prevent bouts of boredom and loneliness.
Although I enjoy the majority of my writing assignments, dealing with strict writing guidelines and submitting countless drafts only further distances me from my passion. This is when I come to Helium for a little break. Helium can help writers overcome boredom because it allows them to choose their own assignments and even submit their own titles. Unlike some professional assignments, Helium allows members to write about what they are truly passionate about at any moment in time. Also, because the minimum word count for a Helium article is currently only 400, writers don't have to delve to deeply into any one topic.
I imagine that even writers who are working on more substantial content, such as a novel or memoir, find that working on the same project day in and day out becomes boring. Even when you love what you are writing about, there are bound to be days when you are stuck in a rut. With twenty-seven different channels and almost limitless titles to choose from, Helium can offer a welcome change.
Although Helium does have writing standards, they are not as strict as what most professional writers are used to, which means members can let down their guard and really just let the words flow. The structure and tone become entirely up to the writer, which is very refreshing for someone who usually has these things dictated to them.
Helium also provides a social networking portal through their various forums, groups and zones, which allows solitary writers to connect with other people who share their passion. Sharing a writing tip or anecdote not only eases boredom, but helps with the loneliness as well.
Helium's rating system is another way for writers to beat boredom. Taking a break from writing to do a little rating not only improves the quality of the site and increases your earning potential, but it can ease the monotony of writing as well. As an added bonus, rating is a great way to get inspiration for new titles that you would like to contribute to as a writer.
