Ways for the New York Knicks to rebuild their franchise

by Joey Sett Brady

Created on: November 29, 2009

The New York Knicks have become the thespian equivalent of Francis Ford Coppola remaking his masterpiece,The Godfather, with Jon Gossilen from John and Kate Plus Eight as Michael Corleone. Once the epitome of class, hustle, and respect, these current Knicks couldn't beat a middle school basketball team at a game of HORSE. How could one of the foundation corner stones of basketball, in a major city with a rabid fan base, become a national embarrassment ? How could a team willing to spend whatever it takes, get such little return for their money? A doctorate dissertation could be written about Isiah Thomas, poor draft decisions, horrible trades, absurd free agent signings, and Charles "Richie Rich" Dolan spending his daddy's money to run the Knicks and Madison Square Garden into the ground.( " But Daddy, I want an Oompa Loompa!) We will put aside the many factors that caused the current disease called the NY Knicks- and instead do our best to find a cure for those of us that bleed orange and blue-

1. Sign Allen Iverson for the rest of this season. The product that the Knicks put on the floor this year is the embodiment of mediocrity. Nobody cares. Nobody tries. Nobody plays defensive. Fans that faithfully watch at home or pay hundreds and thousand dollars to watch this train wreck live deserve better. Allen Iverson would, as a starting guard, automatically become the most naturally talented and All-Star pedigreed player on the team. Yes, Iverson has baggage - but he has something to prove. I think he would thrive in New York. ( Hello Latrell Sprewell). If not, there is absolutely no down side. It is a one-year contract and everyone moves on. The front office excuse of a volatile player like Iverson can hurt team chemistrty should truly make a fan laugh out loud. This current team has 2 wins all seasons: exactly what chemistry are we worried about?

2. Trade for a first round draft pick - The Knicks first round pick this year is owned by the Utah Jazz because of the previous Stephon Marbury trade that continues to haunt NY. The Knicks need a pick in the first round in order to secure a young nueculus of future talent. The Knicks would have to be creative in using an expiring contract or some other incentive to make this trade.

3. Trade Eddy Curry - Fans of the New York Knicks need to hope against hope that Curry shows something this year in order to be even slightly attractive to another team. If another team shows even a lukewarm interest, trade him! Trade him
