It does not take a sociologist with a doctorate to figure out that today modern society is by far and away at one of the epic low points in contemporary history. The current economic climate has definitely put an exclamation point on this. When did it begin? I contend that with the inception of television the genesis for a less then happy society was at it,s starting point. We look at advertisements made by 5th Ave ad executives who tell us we need the big screen television and still we find nothing of any redeeming value to watch and then the television executives are kind enough to put 11 shopping channels on to try to hock more goods that we do not need ! And then we need that new car or we will never get the attention of the hot gal that we covet. Our worship of all things material has also played a large factor in this equation as well. As anyone who has been trampled upon at a Wal Mart will attest to you. And quite frankly one of the main attributes of this materialism is our vanity ! And yes we are a very vain society. We try to acquire all things material in order to one up our neighbors our co workers and anybody else we hope might be gazing upon us. We are very much into a check me out mentality, and our media in all mediums feeds it to us and we buy it!

The truth is that this pursuit of all things material is merely a symptom of what really ails us. The cause of this sickness is really that we do not feel whole on the inside and we look to all things material to fill this hole inside of us because we desperately seek validation from the outside world to establish that we are somebody! Again to bolster our vanity. We have 24 hour news channels that constantly feed us a litany of bad news, terrorism, unemployment, Columbines, Moms killing their own children , climate change. And that is enough to make anyone with any sense of humanity want to throw their hands up in the air and throw in the towel! And I got news for you, going to your local Yoga studio and doing your Tae Bo is not going to fix this! We have now brought up a generation of children who do not give a second thought to posting their bodies all over the Internet. They are completely self indulged and over pampered with no sense of morality and proper etiquette. Nowadays these self centered prima donnas are no longer given a sense of direction either. In my day a spanking was called discipline nowadays they call it abuse. And you wonder why they are out of control?
