Poetry: It feels like home with you

by Christina Bernice Butler

Created on: November 28, 2009

You make me want to be me

The me I don't really let anybody see

Who I came to be

Underneath my shield and sheets

That I shed over the years

But, sometimes, want to go back under

When betrayal leads to fears

And then tears make me wonder

Why I let criticism keep me from living

But I find it so hard to show the real me

And I want, so bad, to be free

I try to keep it real and share the way I feel

As much as I can without putting myself in a position to get hurt

Because I've been healed

But at the same time

Fear still tries to keep me from living my life

And most of the time, I'm no longer shy

I am always hating when I don't say what I gotta

When I wanna

Because I was too busy wondering who'll appreciate it in its worth

But I find it so hard to reveal how I feel inside

So, inside I hide

Until the one who will love me right

Finds me

And lets me feel free

Finally,

To be me
