Willie
Once upon a time in the tall, dark, green forest of Ho there lived a little wood sprite. By some unexplainable chance our wood sprite's name was Willie Wood-Sprite. Willie wasn't like most wood sprites. He didn't want to play mean, mischievous jokes on people.
The sort of house that Willie lived in in the winter time was just a plain old tree. In the summer time though it was a different story. Usually Willie would sleep in a bright red rose and dine on the nectar of the friendly cowslip nearby. Every morning Willie would take a shower by shaking the branches of any low bush. He loves to sing while all those refreshing dew drops fall on him.
The animals and birds were friendly and nice toward Willie because he wouldn't steal their eggs or hide them, or trip them when they walked by. In turn for Willie's being nice to them they brought him little bits of news of the outer world. Willie just loved his friendly woodland friends.
One day when Willie was on his way to see Harry the Spider, he heard a noise that was unfamiliar to him.
"Boo hoo, boo hoo..."
Quietly Willie tiptoes up to where the sound came from and there right before his eyes sat a little child from the outer world. The outer world contained people just like you and me. Willie was wondering how he could make the child stop crying, so he started jumping up and down and turning somersaults. Suddenly the child stopped crying and started laughing, for he was surprised to see such a tiny little creature.
Soon Willie and the little child, Terry, became fast friends. Willie walked Terry to the edge of the forest and Terry promised to meet him there the next day.
Terry kept his promise and met Willie the next day. Terry asked Willie if he had ever been out of the forest. Since he hadn't, Terry promised to take Willie home with him that night. Well as you can imagine Willie was overjoyed.
Willie liked his new home in town, but it had a few drawbacks. The cat loved to chase Willie whenever she saw him because to her he was nothing but a funny looking mouse. To Willie he felt he was lost in a world of giants. He had an awful time trying to keep from getting stepped on. Terry was very nice to him because he knew how Willie felt. Still and all he didn't want him to go back to the forest.
Everyday the day came when Willie wanted to go back to the forest so badly that Terry let him leave. Willie missed the friendly birds and animals and his lovely home. So Willie left and returned home with Terry's promise still ringing in his ears. Terry had promised to visit him whenever he could. So far Terry has kept his promise and everyday Willie and Terry played happily.
If you ever meet a wood sprite that's nice and kind treat him like Terry treated Willie for who knows, it might even be Willie.
The End
