There is a lot of questions about the first verse of the book of John. The first verse says, " In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God." (NKJV) People have different beliefs and theories about Jesus and God being one. John clearly writes that the Word as being a person and not the noise formed with the mouth. Jesus is referred to as the Living Word in the Bible. He is called this because He lived on earth according to the Bible which was the Old Testament. When John wrote the verse, Jesus had already become the Living Word. John was saying that Jesus has always been with God since the beginning of the creation of the earth. Jesus was with God because they are the same person.
Verse three solves the answer to a popular question about how life on earth began. It says, "All things were made through Him, and without Him nothing was made that was made." (NKJV) John states that God made everything and if it were not for God making everything it would not have been done. If God had not made the earth then there is no other person who could have done it. Buddha, Mohammad, aliens, no other god that people claim to be their god could have made heavens and the earth. There is no other God like Him which is why He is Almighty, All Powerful. It is also why evolution and the scientific way the earth formed is wrong. In the first chapter in Genesis it describe how God created the earth. The Bible does not say He made monkeys and turned them into human beings. No, God made man and from man's rib He formed woman.
Verse four goes on to say that life is in God and the life that is Him is light in man. People who truly love God have a glow to them that makes them stand out to people who do not know God. In verse five that is what John is referring to that when the light shines on God's people other people living in sin are trying to figure out why that person is glowing or looks different. Hopefully the people in darkness, sin will be curious enough to ask the people (Christians) what makes them shine. Then it gives an opportunity for the Christian to witness to them about the Living Word.
