SEPARATION ANXIETY
I remember the first one,
Candles, cake, and grown ups
Flashing lights in my tiny face.
The second, not much different.
Candles, cake, and lots of cheers.
- I opened my own presents
All by myself!
But since that day, it's been weird.
I can do my own teeth.
I can ride my own bike.
(three wheeler, of course)
I can eat my own food
All by myself.
Okay, fine. I like those things.
Like you said - I'm a big boy.
But then you took it away.
Okay, fine. 'Cause you've replaced it.
But, this one has no sides, no bars.
I know, now I can get in and out
All by myself.
Like you said - I'm a big boy.
But, hey! Those bars could hug me
In the dark, in the night.
They held me tight.
'Stopped me from crashing.
Now I crash.
But, it's okay.
'Cause, like you said - I'm a big boy.
So, if the bars can't hug me -
Can you?
Come on, lay down with me.
Please?
Just until I leave to that world
You don't think I know about yet.
Please?
Hey! Don't leave!
Oh, no.
I don't like this one - without arms
I mean, bars.
I know, I know,
Like you said.....
But, right now, this big boy
Can only
Cry
All by myself.

Poetry: Good-bye to you
by Lisa Mazurek
Good-bye to you Randy.
The night I met you was the night I will never forget you.
I was cold, alone and feeling abandoned
It's so hard to say "goodbye"
My tears drip, drop by drop
from my cheeks, as tender and delicate as a single blade of grass
She loves me, She loves me not
I sit and wonder as I connect the dots
I'd give her the world until we grow old
I'd give up
Period two English class is a different world now
With your seat an empty space
No more raised hands
And where you kept
Good-bye to you,
My oppressor.
Good-bye to you,
Crusher of dreams,
Dasher of hopes.
Go away from my sight;
Leave me be!
Good-bye
