Poetry: Good-bye, my love

by Christine Whelan-Mccoy

Created on: November 26, 2009

A NEW BEGINNING

Carry on world, we'll soon say goodbye

Carry on children, there's no need to cry

My job I was given on earth is complete

Yet, I've one thing to say with my heart's final beat

Watching you grow up so happy and strong

And giving you guidance, teaching you right from wrong

Was everything God ever said it would be

You're the best gift my wife's ever given to me

But, now as I see you have jobs of your own

With parenthood upon you, you'll not be alone

Be happy, my children, and hold your heads high

For the time now draws near that I must say good-bye

So many years have gone by since the day

God felt it was time to take one of you away

He's kept her a babe, as I once saw her last

And now I will hold her as I did in the past

Take care, my sweet children and do for me this -

Hold tight to the woman I'll painfully miss

Please, tell her I've gone to her babe in the sky

We're there to find peace, but we're not there to die.
