Polls conducted among men show that New Year resolutions of an average American man change little from one year to the next. Men have many of the same goals and desires in common, and while some have kept prior resolutions, others make those most important to them from year to year until the goal has been accomplished, or abandoned for one of even more importance. And, of course, each New Year brings with it a new wave of men who desire to make some important changes in their lives.
One thing that remains constant, though, is the strength of desire in the average American man to improve not only his life, but the lives of others.

1. Spend less time at work and more time with family - This remains a high priority for many American men as the overall work force continues to cut back on its number of employees while increasing the hours required of the remaining employees. Another factor is that as a man matures, so does his desire to better know his family and spend more time with them while there is still the time to spend.
2. Spend less money or get out of debt - As the economy changes, and as a man's personal priorities change, so does his desire to free himself of debt. Spending less is often preferable to working even harder or longer than a man already does.
3. Give up, or cut back on, drinking alcohol - This New Year resolution takes on added importance as the average American man matures and places a higher priority on his health and well-being, hence many men adopt this as one of their top resolutions.
4. Quit smoking - This resolution is popular with men who wish to spend less money and become more health conscious.
5. Take up an exercise program - As the average American man pays closer attention to matters of health, the desire to take up an exercise program becomes a top priority.
6. Lose weight - Coupled with a number of the other top New Year resolutions of an average American man, this is another one that shows a growing desire among them to obtain optimum health and overall well-being.
7. Help others more often or give more to community or charity - The movement of many American men to help their fellow human beings continues year after year to be a top New Year resolution. Part of this worthwhile desire has been fueled by an ever-growing awareness, via technology, that each man is part of a larger global community. Many long to reach out beyond home and self to extend a hand to their communities and the world in general.
8. Get out of a bad relationship - As time passes, many an American man realizes the importance of removing himself from a toxic relationship. Again, one cannot help but notice a strong and ongoing desire of the average American man to optimize his physical, emotional, and spiritual well-being.
9. Find true love - This, too, remains a top New Year resolution of the average American man. The longing for true, lasting love often increases as a man matures. He seeks to find a compatible partner, to experience the joys of true love, which is perfectly understandable. Human beings come with a natural tendancy to, at some point in life, seek out a mate rather than going it alone in the world.
10.Further one's education to find a better job - As the world constantly shifts gears in the area of career and the work place, so does the average American man. It has become incresingly desirable to update one's education to keep up with these rapid changes.
