I want to tell you about a client of mine in which began with me on October 12, 2009 at 379lb. and as of 11/25/2009 he is down to 366lbs. with the eventual goal of going to under 300 by May 29, 2010 as he goes back home to Maine. I am going to give everyone a play by play on continuing articles. This is going to be my "biggest looser" success story as he becomes the biggest winner.

First a little history. Larry called me on October 8, 2009 saying he just joined the gym at the gym I work in LifeQuest Swim and Fitness in Little River, SC. I returned his call as he explained to me that he moved from Maine the week before and that he was obese. I schedueled a consultation the next morning and learned alot about this man.

First he was a hotel manager in a small town of Maine, and decided to move to South Carolina to loose weight. First of all he is on the Grand Strand which Myrtle Beach, SC sits in the middle of and one thing Myrtle Beach is known for is it's numerous resteraunts that serve good tasting, yet high fat, high calorie food that keeps the tourists comming year after year (in fact it is impossible for one person to eat at all the resteraunts within their lifetime.) But getting back to the story. He decided to walk from his condo at 380lbs. to the gym and join it. He lives two miles away. Another thing about Myrtle Beach, SC is it is not pedistrian friendly. The rednecks here would take out someone on the highway just for their thrills. I met with him and he said he needed guidance so we bagan with a set of 30 sessions. We started off with two days per week and went to three.

I am not going to go too much into the actually day by day of the last month, but I will tell you we did single exercises learning basic movements (ie curls, pressdowns, rows etc.) and did bicycling for 5 minutes at a low level. I chose the bicycle because he walks at least four miles daily. (Two to the gym, two to home and this does not count the miles he travels to grocery shop and go other places, he does not drive). Since then I have moved him up to a higher repetition, higher set mode usually doing supersets and he is doing quite well. His mobility has improved dramatically and he can even do a squat on a stool with no help and do an assisted sit up with a TRX band. Now he weighed at the Dr.'s office Wednesday 11/25/09 at 366lbs. This is a total of 2lbs per week average. The weight would have been much more as he has put on some muscle weight which is to be expected. Now he is excited. This is a man that in Maine was suggested to go into a nursing home at age 43. Now he walks and works out and he is determined.

However the main point of this vote and chain is will activity be a determining factor in obesity. Absolutely. Also determination. You HAVE to want it. You have to watch what you eat and you have to be consistent. Period.
