Poetry: Good-bye is never easy

Camouflage

I watch you board the plane,

A slight spring in your step.

A gallant knight in khaki camouflage,

Anticipating adventure ahead.

As you depart for war, my love,

My swelling heart cracks and shatters.

You take the pieces with you,

Bundled in my prayers.

I, too, wear camouflage,

Disguising fear and dread with a smiling face.

Swallowing my tears, I bravely wave farewell,

Knowing I must be a stalwart soldier for my soldier.
