Do thunderstorms encourage ghostly activity

Yes they do!

We always spent our holidays in Devon ever since I can remember from when I was a child up until now as a married woman with two children. Even my husband was drawn to the area. We loved the peace and quiet of the beaches, the narrow country lanes with huge thick hedges on either side and the rolling green fields dotted about with cows and sheep. Normally we spent our holidays in bed and breakfast establishments although latterly it had been a caravan park. However, this year we had decided to rent one of the old cottages in Dartmouth, a pretty town with a well renowned harbour and our favourite place. Therefore it was to this cottage my husband James and I and younger daughter Helen made our way now.

The cottage was located in the middle of the town in a narrow cobbled street and the front door led straight onto the road. We could only park outside to drop off our cases and so whilst Helen and I turned the key in the door to put the cases inside James went and parked the car.

The front door opened up immediately into a room which was very dark and struck us as being very cold even though it was at least 80 degrees outside. This appeared to be the only room downstairs sparsely furnished with a set of stairs towards the back of the room. Helen now made her way up the stairs with one of the cases and shouted to me saying it felt a lot better upstairs as it was too creepy downstairs. I had to agree with her and had thought it was just my imagination getting the better of me but if she had felt it too then there must have been some truth in it.

I ascended the stairs with yet another case and saw that here were the main living quarters. On the left was the kitchen and off this up four steps was a bathroom. On the opposite side of the stairs was a lounge/dining room with an annex in which were bunk beds. I started to descend down the stairs again to retrieve another case when I saw a door half way down the stairs on the right which when opened I found to be a double bedroom with a door at the far end. When I tried this door I found it to be locked.

When James returned from parking the car he too remarked on the coldness of the room downstairs. Helen was muttering about the place being spooky when James and I walked upstairs into the lounge. She said she didn't want to stay here but said if she had to then she was not sleeping in the annex with the bunk beds as it frightened her. James being the good husband and father he is said he would sleep there
