The best Jennifer Aniston quotes will tell you a lot of what you already know, but it's good to be reminded.
On Being in Love
"I love that feeling of being in love, the effect of having butterflies when you wake up in the morning. That is special."
Butterflies are overrated. Being in love is great when you're an international superstar actress who's been with the likes of Brad Pitt. For most people, however, being in love leads to butterflies, then to incompetence, then to a gallon and a half of Ben and Jerry's while watching reruns on the Lifetime Channel on Friday night.
On Perfume
"The best smell in the world is that man that you love."
Jennifer is test marketing several new fragrances to capitalize on her olfactory insights. Possible colognes include "Onion Breath," "Construction Site," "Septic Pump" and "Smelly Underwear."
On Her Weight
"You're damned if you're too thin, and you're damned if you're too heavy. According to the press, I've been both. It's impossible to satisfy everyone, and I suggest we stop trying."
Here's what I suggest we stop: complaining about what the press says about superstar actresses. When you become a famous, extremely attractive actress, your appearance will be scrutinized mercilessly. If you don't like it, stop being a famous, extremely attractive actress.
On Happiness
"Once you figure out who you are and what you love about yourself, I think it all kinda falls into place."
She already told us the tabloids are going to criticize her regardless, so what is a woman to do? Jennifer gives us the answer. If only she'd tell us how to figure out who we are and what we love about ourselves...
On Fame
"I don't know what it means to be a sex symbol. When I look at myself on a magazine cover I don't see it as me, but as someone painted, fluffed, puffed and done up."
We don't know what it means to be a sex symbol either (of course, most of us are not). Read between the lines on this one. If I'm not mistaken, Jennifer's telling us that magazine covers, TV shows and Hollywood blockbusters don't reflect reality. I'm shocked!
On Fame
"When someone follows you all the way to the shop and watches you buy toilet roll, you know your life has changed."
Couldn't we turn this around? If you follow someone all the way to the shop and watch her buy a roll of toilet paper, you know your life needs to change.
On Fear
"I was told to avoid the business all together because of the rejection. People would say to me, 'Don't you want to have a normal job and a normal family?' I guess that would be good advice for some people, but I wanted to act."
Success leaves clues. Whereas most let the fear of rejection end their dreams, Jennifer knew what she wanted and was willing to do whatever it took to achieve it, including face rejection. In a society that has tried to take away the individual's right to failure (and ultimately success), Jennifer's message is as timely as ever.
