Home Remedies for a Sore Throat
It is hard to swallow and your throat feels scratchy, dry and just overall miserable. Having a sore throat is not fun and can sometimes by darned uncomfortable.
Here are a few home remedies for a sore throat you can use to instantly soothe the pain and make you feel better.
Old Fashioned Warm Milk Home Remedy
This is a popular home remedy that many swear works like a charm. You will need:
1 Cup Milk
1 Tbsp. Butter
1. Tbsp. Honey
Sprinkle Sugar
Heat the milk with one tablespoon of butter and one tablespoon of honey. If you would like to sweeten it further you can also sprinkle on a touch of sugar. Drink it while it is very hot but be careful not to burn your tongue or mouth. This home remedy will coat your throat making it feel better, and the heat from the warm milk will help make the swelling go down.
Try Apple Cider Vinegar
Combine 2 teaspoons of apple cider vinegar with an 8 ounce glass of water and drink down. To make it more palatable, you can add 1 tablespoon of honey. Should instantly make throat feel better and soothed.
Gargle with Warm Saltwater.
Another one of the more popular home remedies for a sore throat is to make a saline solution to gargle with. Dissolve teaspoon of salt with a cup of warm water. Mix well, then gargle. Doing this 3 or 4 times a day helps cut phlegm and helps reduce inflammation. Be careful not to swallow too much however because of the high sodium content. This should be used for gargling only.
Gargle With Listerine
Listerine is another great gargling solution. Simply gargle 2 or 3 times a day with Listerine mouthwash. If you share the mouthwash with someone else in the house however be sure to use a small clean cup and do not consume directly from the bottle or the cap just in case your sore throat is due to a cold and contagious.
Drink a Lemon Juice Mixture
Mix 1 tablespoon of lemon juice and 1 tablespoon of honey in a glass of warm water and sip.
Drink a Lime Juice Mixture
If you prefer lime to lemons, mix one tablespoon of lime juice and 1 tablespoon of honey to warm water and sip.
Drink Soothing Hot Fluids
If gargling is not your thing or you want some extra soothing for a sore throat, try drinking warm liquids such as tea with lemon and honey or hot lemonade. Both will help in soothing the pain of a sore throat because the warm fluid is similar to using a hot pack for your throat.
Drink More Water
Try to keep your throat well lubricated by drinking at least 6 to 8 glasses of water a day. This will help it from becoming dry and irritated as well as help to flush out your system of infection quicker.
