Magic the Gathering card analysis: Circu, Dimir Lobotomist

"Circu, Dimir Lobotomist" is a 2/3 legendary black and blue human wizard printed as a rare for the Magic the Gathering expansion set known as "Ravnica: City of Guilds." This is a type of card that is meant to be played in a control deck with blue and black cards. It seems to be a perfect way to lock down your opponents' decks. It is good in a one-on-one deck and a free-for-all deck. In an EDH (Elder Dragon Highlander) format, Circu, Dimir Lobotomist seems to be a very good general to have.

The converted mana cost for Circu, Dimir Lobotomist is four. You will need one blue mana, one red mana, and two colorless mana to play Circu, Dimir Labotomist from your hand onto the battlefield. For what Circu, Dimir Lobotomist can do, the casting cost is well worth it. If you have one blue mana and one black mana, you could use the black mana for "Dark Ritual." That should be enough to play Circu, Dimir Lobotomist. Keep in mind that Circu, Dimir Lobotomist is a legendary creature and is subject to the "legendary rule." Should there be two cards on the battlefield named Circu, Dimir Labotomist on the battlefield, they both get sent to the graveyard. Keep in mind that this is a blue creature and a black creature at the same time. It means that Circu, Dimir Labotomist is susceptible to anything and everything that affects both blue and black permanents.

What does Circu, Dimir Labotomist do in the first place?

The first ability allows you to Exile the top card of a target library whenever you play a blue spell.

The second ability allows you to Exile the top card of a target library whenever you play a black spell.

Opponents cannot play a nonland card with the same name as the card Exiled by the ability of Circu, Dimir Labotomist. In this respect, this is the perfect card in which you can lock down your opponent's decks. If your opponents have copies of a certain card, you only need to target one library. If one opponent gets that card Exiled, the other opponents cannot play the same card.

If you played a hybrid color spell, you get to use both abilities. You get to target two libraries or one library. If it is a split card, opponents cannot use either spell on that one.

Overall, Circu, Dimir Labotomist is a great card to have if you are using a control deck. This is perhaps one of the biggest ultimate lockdown cards.
