Facts about iPods

The iPod is one the most popular electronic device on this planet. Introduced by Apple, Inc, in October, 2001, the famous portable media player comes in various forms including the Shuffle, Nano, Mini, Classic, and Touch. The Mini have been dropped from the current line of Ipods in 2005. It was replaced by the Nano. In 2007, 100 million copies of the device were sold. The name iPod was suggested by Vinnie Chieco, a freelance writer to Apple.

The Classic is the first iPod and has been introduced in six generations. The first generation of the Classic was introduced on 23 October, 2001. Prior to the introduction of its sixth generation, the Classic was just simply referred to as the iPod. Originally, Firewire was used for connection for the Classic. Today USB is used instead. Unlike other iPods, a hard drive is used as as storage device for the Classic. Users of the Classic can watch videos and listen to audio. When the first generation of the Classic was introduced, consumers had the choice of a 5GB or a 10GB model. Today, consumers can choose an 80, 120, or 160GB model. The latest Classic can work with the Mac 10.4 and Windows XP operating systems.

The Shuffle is the smallest of the iPods. There are three generations of this iPod. The first generation was introduced on January 11, 2005. The latest generation was introduced on 11 March, 2009. The later generation comes in two models, one with the capacity of 2GB and the other with the capacity of 4GB. The first generation models only came with the options 512MB and 1GB. The user of a Shuffle can only use it to listen to download and to listen to audio. The latest Shuffle is compatible with the Mac 10.4 and Windows XP operating systems. The Shufle is currently available in silver, black, blue, green, and pink.

The Nano was introduced on September 7, 2005. Five generations of such iPod had been manufactured. The latest generation comes with the choices of 8GB and 16GB.The original Nano had lower capacity and came with the choice of 1, 2 and 4 GB. USB is used as the connection technology for the Nano. The latest Nano is compatible with the Mac 10.4 and Windows XP operating systems. The Nano also comes in the colors of silver, black, purple, pink, green, orange, and blue.

The only iPod with touchscreen technology is the iPod Touch. A user touches an icon on the screen of his or her iPod Touch to activate an option. Three generations of this iPod has already rolled out the production line since its introduction on September 5, 2007. The latest version was introduced on September 9, 2009 and comes with the choices of 32GB and 64GB model. Like the other iPods, the latest generation of the iPod Touch can work with the Mac 10.4 and Windows XP operation systems.

The iPod in whatever forms it comes while continue to be a very popular device in the years to come.
