The consumer market for mobile devices is no longer a one trick pony. During the summer of 2009, T-Mobile introduced the myTouch 3G as their second effort to compete in a field previously dominated by Apple's iPhone. I bought my very own myTouch 3G in October. The cost of the phone was affordable, and with it I upgraded my mobile plan to include the unlimited data, so that I may have access to the full range of features the myTouch 3G provides. Also, I paid the extra $30 for a lifetime warranty plan.
The look of the phone is flashy, stylish, simplistic, and clean. The face of the phone is dominated by a brilliant 3.2 inch touchscreen. This time around, T-Mobile opted for an on-screen keyboard function and completely removed a physical keyboard. This feature adds to the phone's signature style. The myTouch is available in 3 color varieties; black, merlot (Burgundy), and white. The face also includes 6 buttons that accommodate the phone's features nicely, along with a smooth trackball for your convenience.
Powered by Google's Android system, the myTouch arrives as an upgrade from T-Mobile's debut 3G phone in the G1. Those persons who have a Gmail account, or use Google frequently, will find this phone's seamless connection to all of Google's services to be exceptional. The Android Marketplace is where users and buy apps for the phone and download free apps alike. I have installed dozens of useful, entertaining applications that make myTouch that much more enjoyable. The phone performs very well when using applications, even when running multiple programs at once.
The phone allows for mp3 playback, and includes a built-in media player which functions flawlessly. You can transfer songs from your computer easily. The myTouch includes a 4gb removable miniSD card.
Personalization of the myTouch in seemingly infinite, in that there exists countless apps and features available for free or through purchase by using the Android Marketplace. In that marketplace T-Mobile even puts together a handy list of must-have apps that allow you to keep track of your plan, pay your bill from your phone, download music and more. Are you by chance a Flickr enthusiast, as I am? Well, you'll be happy to know there is an app for that.
All around, the myTouch 3G is an excellent addition to the evolving smartphone category. It's features are deep and user-friendly. The phone is easy to navigate around. I learned it in a couple hours. If you're looking for a smartphone upgrade you should give the due consideration for the T-Mobile myTouch 3G.
