Solutions to help the homeless

People are homeless because of poverty.

And many are poor, and others have so much.

I am not a communist... I do not believe that you can legislate or impose morality on society.

I do believe though, that the only real solution to help the homeless lies at the bottom of a cultural shift.

We must see a revolution in the mindset of our culture.

We live in a "dog eat dog" world. And as long as one dog is working hard to earn money to buy things he does not need, there are others who cannot find work, and have no way to earn money for the things they do need.

The only real solution to homelessness is if the people who HAVE give out of their excess to the HAVE NOTS.

Most of us claim to be "struggling to get by". We claim to be "living hand to mouth", or to be living "paycheck to paycheck"

But we spend 30 bucks a month for cable tv.
And when we want more channels, we pay 100 a month to get Digital Cable options, so that we have thousands more viewing options.

We pay 35 bucks a month for cell service. Than we bump it to 50-60 a month so we can get a cool camera phone.

We rack up credit card debt at the mall on new clothes.

We eat out at restaurants, and pay three times as much for food we could have cooked ourselves.

And meanwhile, people starve and shiver in the cold.

A solution to help the homeless?

Sacrifice.

And instead of using this article as a finger pointer, I will use this article to point the finger at myself, and to prompt myself to action.

A revolution can never start unless it starts with ME.

So I propose that we all learn the difference between what we need and what we want.

We spend less on what we want, and we give it to programs that provide for the homeless, so that we can work toward building a better world.
