This is the point of no return (PNT) question. Therefore it is a very exciting question. Can a society exist without absolute truth? Actually, that is not even the question. The proposition is not even a question but a statement to ponder. That is why this is very interesting. This of course has greater implications that one supposes at first reading.
Let us suppose that society is a group of people. Just any loose group of people. When science fiction films are posed, they tend to present a society with some quirky sense of society. Something odd and eventually fatal. This title however seems to take the flipside and that is where I will argue it from.
Absolute truth is also at first self evident, but it also fitters away into the ambiguous. For instance, the holocaust was wrong is an absolute truth. There are however some people, whole societies of people even, who deny that the holocaust happened the way it has been presented. Killing or murder is also an absolute no, no. Except in the cases of self-defense. The question of intellectual or artistic property becomes more interesting.
Even the western societies, the idea of copyright has great power. Even a written word can be protected by copyright. Does a particular phase like Donald Trumps "you're fired" his own patent protected property. Most of us agree that Donald Trump was a fool even to suggest that. Most of us personally know we've heard those words before Mr. Trump began saying them on the air.
That however does not address the possibility of society without absolute truth. Granted it is possible, at least for many decades. It could make things a lot easier in some ways. Imagine never having to go to court because some ignorant person thought you were wrong. Imagine being able to smash someone's car because they were going slow in the fast lane. I mean legally, truthfully, and with a very clear conscience. Then again, going back to square one, there would be no speed limits or fast lanes. So you wouldn't even have to back-end the little old lady.
Without absolute truth, my money would be your money. Your property my property. His personal belongings could be used by anybody. It would mean that we would be getting over a lot of things. "Our" or "my things" for instance.
Without absolute truth, we would be able to do drugs of every description. Our own children would be able to do the same and it would be just cool with everyone. The possibility of society without absolute truth would set us
