Poetry: Sin

by Geoffrey Schmitt

Insidious compulsive deceptive sin

In spite of my efforts you often will win

The good that I would I find I avoid

The bad I would not is often employed

Things left undone are often as bad

As things that I do to make others sad

Repentance, confession, apologies made

Forgiveness and mercy can ever be weighed

To balance the sin only grace will suspend

The judgment deserved when we come to the end

So strive as we will to forgive and restore

Were it not for the Cross our defeat would be sure.
