If Christmas has left you with a not so merry effect on your finances, then destiny has very likely left you embracing 2010 with an unexpected resolution: one that pleads you to save money. So what to do if a New Year's party has been a must in your family traditions for years but yet you do not have the capability to pour out some of that expensive Champagne or to serve those tasty party platters that all your friends enjoy?
Truth is that it really does not take rocket science to cut some corners on your party supplies and favorite refreshments. Simply plan early, get your creative juices flowing and take action. Just remember one simple golden rule: limiting your spending, does not necessarily translate into a dull, substandard party: the money may be tight but the possibilities are really endless!
How to Plan a New Year's Party on a Budget
-Visit your Dollar store
Your neighborhood dollar store can be a life saver when shopping for party supplies. Make a list of what you need and grab a cart. Get ready for substantial savings as you shop for streamers, balloons, hats, noisemakers, confetti and so forth. Smile during check out as the cashier pronounces your total: congratulations, you have spent only a fraction of what you would have spent at your favorite department stores.
-Dress up Your Home
With Christmas out of the way, undress your Christmas tree and use the lights to adorn your door, your stairwell and even the room where you will host your party, Your home will be sparkling and it will put all your guests into a great party mood. Hang lots of ribbons on your wall and blow up lots of balloons.
-Create Ambiance
A lot of candles from your local dollar store should create the right ambiance for your party. Just remember to practice safety first and place them in safe areas. If you want to jazz up the look of your candles, glue some gold glitter over them. Floating candles are another great choice to make your home look classy.
-Host a Recipe Party
Instead of spilling a bunch of dollars on buying costly food, invite your guests to bring food along. This way, guests will get to taste a variety of foods ranging from appetizers to dessert. Food is ultimately a great conversation piece. Watch your guests engage in conversations about how the dish was prepared and how good it tastes!
-Go with Sparkling Wine
You do not have to spend a fortune on a bottle of Moet and Chandon. Rather, go for a few bottles of sparkling wine for the midnight toast. Your guests will
