Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 is the latest installment of the iconic Call of Duty franchise to spawn from the genius video game company, Infinity Ward. Modern Warfare 2 brings many new aspects of gameplay to the table from the vast and epic new storyline as a direct follow-up to Call of Duty 4, as well as countless new aspects of immersive gameplay in the aspects of split-screen and multiplayer. Multiplayer gaming is one of the main reasons that the Call of Duty franchise is so popular. Just what makes Modern Warfare 2 stand out as the undisputed king of multiplayer and co-operative action in the legendary Call of Duty franchise?

Modern Warfare 2 features a massive upgrade to the multiplayer and co-operative aspect of gameplay that the previous title in the franchise, World at War, failed to capitalize on. While World at war was evidently lacking in the multiplayer and online aspect, Modern Warfare 2 redeems itself and returns to the epic online aspect that made Call of Duty 4 one of the greatest and most successful video games of all time.

Modern Warfare 2 comes complete with countless new online challenges. Once these challenges are completed, the player gains high amounts of experience points which will level them up which in turn unlocks hidden things. Much like Call of Duty 4, these unlocks include equipment such as primary weapons, secondary weapons, grenades, throwing knives and added perks and skills for your weapons and character.

Modern Warfare 2 also continues to capitalize on the unlock feature in the online gameplay. Players not only get access to the basics, they also gain access to more complex features known as "Titles and Emblems". A title allows the player to equip this title to their name. They come in a wide range of slogans and colors and these can be used to personalize your online personality. They can be unlocked by completing challenges and leveling up, as well as completing secret objectives while in the game. Emblems work in the same way. Players may remember their "emblem" changing whenever they leveled up; it is the small badge next to their name. Modern Warfare 2 uses these, but gives the player the chance to personalize their character and equip whatever badge they feel is the best.

Infinity Ward has undoubtedly focused on the strong points of the top games in their franchise to come up with something completely unique that will give players the ultimate gaming experience, and thus, Modern Warfare 2 was born. The game brings some of the most impressive single player campaigns in the history of the Call of Duty franchise and it also capitalizes on the multiplayer and co-operative aspects that made the franchise popular to begin with. Needless to say, Modern Warfare 2 is certainly a standpoint to what future games in the series will have to surpass; but for now, Modern Warfare 2 is here to stay as the king of the Call of Duty franchise.
