Hauntings in Dayton, OH

Dayton is a city with much history, and even more mystery. Though all of Ohio is riddled with ghost stories and reported hauntings, Dayton seems to be a hot spot for alleged paranormal activity.

Let's look at an overview of some more popular spots that many say are haunted:

Sinclair Community College - Downtown

This college is riddled with legends, claims of ghost sightings, and strange happenings. From personal experience, I can attest to this - walk around the campus long enough and ask people if they've ever had paranormal experience on campus; people will have stories.

The cafeteria is built on the same grounds that Dayton used to execute criminals on over a century ago. Many people say that the strangely high paranormal activity may be connected to this fact.

There's the ghost of an old man and his mule that are sometimes seen walking through the halls. Elevators operate by themselves, doors will suddenly lock, lights flickering, cold rushes of wind, and the feeling of being pushed by someone behind you - there are many claims from students, janitors, and faculty alike. Building 2, 3, 7, and 13 have all had reported activity.

Victoria Theater - Downtown

This old theater has been around for a while, and purportedly homes some old ghosts. One is the ghost of a woman that leaves the scent of rose perfume wherever she goes. There's another female ghost who was murdered in one of the theater boxes. There was one account of a male patron who sat in the box and was slapped across the face, with a mark clearly evident.

Memorial Hall - Downtown

This historic building was built in 1909, and is supposedly haunted by the ghost of a custodian who injured his hip when he fell from the stage into the orchestra pit. Workers report hearing toilets flush in empty bathrooms and footsteps from the catwalks at night.

The Masonic Temple - Downtown

Fountains will come on by themselves, footsteps are heard, and the elevators will sometimes just play with you, taking you to different floors than what you choose.

Stivers Middle School - Downtown

Without a doubt, no school in Dayton has had more ghost stories than Stivers. The stories go that a teacher had an affair with a student, things went south, and the teacher's body was found in the underground, Olympic-sized swimming pool. Teachers and students alike have stories of what has transpired since then. Doors will slam shut and the electricity will malfunction. At night, the bells in the entire school have gone off. Some
