Nepal is a beautiful charismatic place full of people belonging to many different ethnic groups and the natural beauty it posesses is even more amazing.
From the deepest valleys to the highest mountains this small country which is sandwiched between two great nations of China and India is a must visit for high-end tourists as well as low budget back packers.
With the introduction well maybe some tips are in order:-
WATER
Never ever ever drink tap water from anywhere within a city or any village near a city. Unlike other countries tap water in Nepal is just not fit for drinking.
If possible always try to boil tap water before drinking or buy bottled water. This will be the safest bet as water borne diseases are aplenty.
Not Just The Trek
Dont just view Nepal as a trekking destination. It offers much more than just its natural beauty. So don't miss out on all the historical and cultural aspects of this place.
The Thakali and Newar cuisine are excellent. Do try some the various exotic as well as staple dishes you wont regret it.Some food may cause the infamous Delhi Belly but generally everything is good to eat.
The medieval temples shrines and Royal courtyards in Kathmandu Valley are a real treat.
Do visit the roads that led to the end of the Hippie Trail where cafes and bars reminescent of the 70's are littered throughout Thamel and Freak Street ( Jhochhen ).
Safari
The lowlands of Nepal offer an exquisite array of varied wildlife safaris including elephant rides, jeep rides, nature walks, bird watching. The most famous of these places is the Chitwan National Park.
And Finally the mountains............
This point is actually a no brainer but be advised not to trek alone in the dense wilderness on the foothills of the Himalayas. Everest, Annapurna, Jumla, Humla, Karnali, Mustang are all famous for its trekking as well as the warm people which inhabit the place. Take a guide along who knows every nook and cranny. Some treks are just not for the faint hearted.
While trekking towards high altitudes be advised of altitude sickness and frost bites. Trekking in Nepal is also moderately expensive so do bring a substantial stash of cash.
Almost Forgot the adventure sports
- In Nepal you can experience one of the highest bungee jumps in the world.
- Rafting through the white waters of Bhote Koshi and Trishuli are also one of the major attractions
- Canyoning, Rock Climbing, Mountain Biking, Paragliding, Hot air ballooning and some more...
Final Thoughts
Have an open mind. Try stuff you've never tried before. Nepalese are generally very polite and are actually very fond of people from far far away.
