Having a fly or two in your home can seem relatively harmless. Some people may take little heed and continue on with their daily, routine living, while others will consider, if perhaps a couple of flies could bring with them a greater infestation of flies.
In all likelihood, there is the chance that wherever a couple of flies enter your home from, more will follow. This is especially true if you have a rather closed in home. But if its summer and you've got a window open or doorway ajar, maybe a few kids running in and out, then sure, a fly or two will probably wander into your home. But with the warm weather they may just as easily wander back out, continuing in their endless hunt for food supply and garbage. Hopefully, you don't have a bunch of food or garbage laying around inside, or else those flies may consider that they have just found the closest thing to heaven in your home. And in that case, they probably are not going to go anywhere unless you take measures to get them out, yourself.
So, how exactly should you go about getting these little buggers out of your house, especially if you're dealing with an outright infestation of them.
Make sure the areas around your home are clean
Fly problems start outside. So, first things first, take care of the outside. And remember, a fly's only purpose in life is to feed and breed. Surely, we don't want to augment their survival, especially in our yards and around our homes. So, for now and in the future, keep your living areas free of trash, and any decomposing organic matter. Keep garbage in tightly sealed bags, and try to have garbage cans with tightly sealed lids, as well. Spray out the bottom of garbage cans with bleach and hot water on a regular basis. Animal wastes easily attracts flies, so if you have pets, be sure to clean up after them.
Consider the ways in which flies find entry into your home
Perhaps it is summertime and flies indeed, came right through your front door. But flies will also climb the outer surfaces of homes, looking for a way in. They usually enter through small areas under window surfaces, among doorways or openings in the roof and crawl spaces around the home. Check the exterior of your house, and under roof eaves for any cracks or small holes. Use a sealant such as, caulking or expanding foam to close off these areas no matter how small they may appear.
