How To Prepare A Winter Home Safety Kit!
Emergency situations happening all the time; they can affect you at any time, be prepared. With your home safety survival kit it could potential save your life and keep you safe and warm for the long winter days to come. Never wait until the last minute; you never know when the situation may cause for it and its best that you have a plan and the proper supplies. In fact the items that you will need is very cost effective and you already have most of these items already in your home.
First thing if you have infant children or babies they will need a kit designed a little bit differently then an adult kit. Babies cannot generate heat like an adult and they do not eat the same foods as an adult. So make sure you have the following items on hand in case of an emergency:
Babies Kit: Make sure you have plenty of diapers, Bottled milk, if you do not breast feed; its best to keep a few powdered cans on hand just in case you cannot keep the milk refrigerated. Wipes, Jard baby food, rice cereal and an extra supply of baby clothes; I would say a good garbage bag size full. Baby medicine such as; baby aspirin, teething medicine, diaper rash cream, etc. Two thick fleece baby blankets, and extra receiving and other blankets. Hand sanitizer, and baby's pacifier's, and a well stock of bottles.
These following items are essential in surviving a winter without power or water. Make sure your home kit has at least the following items on hand at all times:
*Survival goods non perishable items, nuts, dried fruit and meats and cheese, bread and other snack items that will not go bad if left out for a long period of time. Make sure you have enough food to last you for at least two weeks. Make sure you have a hand-held can opener to open cans with.
*Water purification tablets or filters-make sure you fill the bathtub and maybe other large containers with water for flushing your toilet. Buy enough water to last your family for at least two weeks. If you run out of drinking water; take a clean can and put it outside to catch snow and let the snow melt for drinking water.
*Long lasting candles; buy a good supply. You can pick up a good size box of candles at pretty much any retail store. Lighter and or waterproof matches.
*Emergency sleeping bags; preferably ones lined with fleece for extra warmth. Fleece keeps the body warm while drawing sweat away from the body; keeping you dry and warm while you sleep.
*Get a whistle; if you are faced
