When you are shopping, you might notice something tagged on the item that says it has been "refurbished" or "recertified". There is no real difference between refurbished and recertified products. It simply means that the item has been repaired and is not new. It is supposed to be in working order. Online, you may notice a computer or game console that seems like a great deal. It might be hundreds less than others and then you read the fine print: REFURBISHED.
These types of items can be great deals and they can last just as long as a new item of the same type. However, to be sure you are getting your money's worth you must do some research before you buy! Remember: Buyer's Beware!
Before buying anything that has been labeled refurbished or recertified; make sure to check out all the fine print. See if there is any sort of warranty left on the item. Check out reviews of the items, sellers, and see if it goes into detail about what was wrong with the item because it was refurbished or recertified. Compare the price of a new item and the refurbished item.
Certainly, these items can be great deals for frugal shoppers. A refurbished computer can be hundreds less than a new model. It simply might mean the computer has been given more memory or an overhaul on the system. It doesn't have to mean that the model of the item was "broken".
However, you want to do a lot of searching, comparison shopping, and research before buying something like this. Also, check the prices. You don't want to only save a bit of money by buying something that is used. If the price difference is not substantial, it is not worth taking something that has no warranty.
Great deals can be found in refurbished or recertified items. But, you need to make sure that the item will fit your needs. Make sure to delve in and do some research on both the item you are thinking of purchasing and the seller. A reputable seller will offer a return if the item does not work when you receive it and most times offer some sort of short term warranty.
So, don't be afraid of the words refurbished or recertified on items. They can be a great deal, a super bargain, and save you lots of money if you research properly.
