Poetry: Drunken sorrow

by Dylan Gilman

Created on: November 21, 2009

It was full on fire
planks and nails.

Hunted with ease
by mosquitos
we watched and our eyes danced
clapping our hands

night birds know things
secrets you will never hear
stop talking
you know you're only
annoyed by the sounds.

Show up on time
next time
last time

"Pass me a beer
I want to try harder."

Eventualy
the water pulls back
dry bones in the sand
like broken twigs
after a hurricane
with no rain.

This is me and you.

spark a smoke
think out loud
close your eyes
and feel the night birds
watching you.

Her eyes were bloodshot
the angery music
bouncing in the trees nearby
I didn't ask
I didn't need to
The night birds know things
things about you.
