Why the 2010 draft is going to be important for the Cleveland Browns

Though the 2010 NFL Draft has come to past for the Cleveland Browns, it has to be considered important to see the results.  Every move that is made has to be made with proper precision.  Truth of the matter is much like the 2009 Draft; the jury is out on that one.  Unlike the 2010 version, however, the results from that one doesn’t look too good with only one starter that has been solid.  2010 is showing some signs of potential but only time will tell.  There are reasons to think it was important and it’s not a surprise to see why that indeed is the case.

Let it be known that Cleveland has looked ridiculous in the draft consistently. They have made some serious blunders over the years and this is going from 1999 to the present date. This is a personal opinion but this has to be a second Browns team and really should not be considered with the original team but that's just a look at it. The quarterback position has really not been great and has been playing quarterback by committee. Tim Couch was their first pick in the 1999 draft and it turned out to be a bust. He is no longer playing in the NFL and is unlikely to ever return.

There have been too many changes to really get a feel for the team and get the right guy. At the same time, the picks that may have been made have not been successful. To be fair for the 2009 NFL draft, it still is going to be one that the jury is still out. Mostly, it was about getting role players or at least that is what it appeared to be looking at the draft again. No official grade can be given to determine whether they did it right or wrong. It will depend on the progress of each player picked every single season they are playing.

They are going to get as many impact players as possible. The offense needs some serious work and could really use getting rid of some of these players that put little or no effort. There is a chance they could go after a quarterback that could be available such as a Colt McCoy or Tim Tebow even though the jury is out on both of them on being successful in the NFL. Nobody really knows for sure.

This is important because quite frankly, sooner or later, the worst the team gets, the more likely fans will quit watching the team. That has to be considered in that respect and if it isn't, then it really is going to be risking low attendance and seeing some more potential blackouts happening. It almost happened the night they played the Ravens but it didn't happen and it wasn't because of the fans but a combination of the Browns, ESPN, Bud Light, and probably someone else that wasn't mentioned.

If you're going to build a winner, it has to be through the draft and use free agency to try to take care of what couldn't be done during the draft. Assuming they do not go after a quarterback there, free agency may have a few names to consider but that's another story.

The draft is going to be critical and more so with as many picks as they got. When you draft well, it will show. It will be interesting if Mangini will still be there next season but the draft has to work for the sake of the team. If the Browns are ever going to improve, now is the time to do it.
