Financial advice for an engaged couple

When you are getting ready to get married, you will find that your finances can take a big hit. It depends on the type of wedding you want. Finances don't stop just because you are having a wedding. Some people can't control themselves. They think that the wedding day is the most important day of their lives and they want to spend, spend, spend. Of course, when the party is over, the bills for that wedding have to be paid and so do your regular bills.

Engaged couples need to learn about their finances before getting married. If you have the finances under control before you get married, you won't have the turmoil that it can cause later on. Money is one of the biggest causes of problems in marriage. Talk about it now and know what you are getting into.

Here is some financial advice for engaged couples:

The Future

Nothing matters more than your financial future. Discuss with each other how you want your future to turn out and how you will reach those goals. Will both of you work or will one of you stay home. Figure out how much you want to put into savings. You will probably want to buy a house if one of you don't already own one. You have to plan out how you will make that happen. You should discuss these things before the wedding day so you will know where you are going into the future with each other.

Children

Discuss children as well. Planning for your financial situation means planning for big expenses. Discuss whether children will be part of the marriage and how much money it costs. It isn't a cheap venture to have children so you want to financially plan for it. Remember the cost of college tuition. That may seem like many years away, but it truly isn't. The babies that you don't have yet will be grown and ready for college before you know it.

The Wedding

Planning the wedding is a lot of fun and it's very expensive. Discuss a wedding budget and how it fits into your plans for the future. You don't want to get stuck in a bad place because you had to have a certain kind of flowers on your wedding day. It isn't wise to take out huge loans for a big wedding. Plan a wedding that you can afford. Stay on budget or below it. You will be thankful that you did when you don't have to worry about it for years to come.

Getting married is definitely one of the biggest days or you life. When you get engaged, you need to seek financial advice so that you will be prepared for the future. The wedding day is just one day out of the many that you will spend together. You will want to be on the same page with finances. Communicate with each other and be agreeable to what you are financially heading into.
