One time honored winter traditions is building a snowman. There really is no better way to spend a winter's day than bundling up the kids and heading outside to create a new friend! Building a snowman is a fun family activity and a bonding experience that requires team work and imagination. But how do you build a snowman? There are many possibilities.
The traditional three ball snowman (don't forget the corn-cob pipe) - This is Frosty. The most famous snowman there is, and it is perhaps the most widely recognizable snowman. For this guy, start with a snowball. Pack it tight between your hands. Then roll the snowball along on the snowy ground and pack it as you go. It should collect more snow as you roll it. Get the kids involved, this is easy! Roll the first ball until it is about waist high to an adult. Roll this ball to where the snowman will stand, this is his base. Create an indentation at the top of this snowman base. Next roll a second snowball about half the size of the first, and place it on top of the base in that indentation you made. Make a new indentation in that second ball. Once more, roll a third snowball for the head, and set it atop the second ball. Viola! A snowman. Well, almost. Finally you must give your new Frosty some personality. If you want to go traditional all the way, he needs coal for his buttons, eyes, and mouth, a carrot nose, a corncob pipe, some sticks for arms, a scarf, a broom, and of course a black top hat ..for when they placed it on his head, he began to dance around It's unlikely that your Frosty will begin to dance around, but the magic is still there, you'll see it in your children's eyes as they delight in this family fun activity.
The two ball Want to save a little time? Maybe you're just not very tall. Whatever the reason, you may rather make a two ball snowman. The cartoon Frosty really only has two balls anyway, it's true, go ahead look it up! This is simple, follow the directions above, but stop after the second ball. You may opt to make the first ball a little bit bigger in this instance, but that's up to you. Use similar decorations or make this one a snowwoman. Give her an apron, and a knit hat instead of the many coal buttons. Whatever you do is up to you, just make sure you have fun with it.
The snow mound snowman This one looks more like a snow creature than a snowman, but it can be just as fun to build. For this guy, simply create a mound of snow and keep piling it on until he is as tall as you would like
