Working while you are supposed to be having the best time of your life never seems fun. Whether you just need the extra cash or are enrolled in work-study, take your on campus job as an opportunity for fun. Cleaning the dust off of old books or wiping down sweaty gym equipment not your style? Try applying for these on-campus jobs to increase your on the job fun.
Public Safety
Public safety student workers sign people in and out of residence halls. These students gain the chance to know the majority of the student population. Many dormitories also have free or reduced student laundry that public safety workers can use. If you live on campus or commute, your laundry can be done for free as a public safety worker. While you get the chance to socialize, you can also do your homework since there is a lot of downtime in between sign-ins. Who else would get paid to do homework?
Event Staff
Event Staff workers handle setup of events. They are also required to attend and assist with on campus events. These events typically include athletic dinners, parties and concerts. If you love the party atmosphere, this is a great job for you. You will be able to attend events for free and meet new people. During catered events, student workers are usually allowed to take remaining food home. Free food is apart of the typical college dream. The best part about event staff jobs are during concerts. For students who attend schools that do not host free concerts, a student worker can get backstage for free.
Orientation Leaders
Orientation leaders are actually paid to educate new students about the school and to have fun. Their job description includes making the school appeal to new students through games, socializing and parties. Since many of the orientations occur during the summer, orientation leaders are provided with free on campus housing and meal plans. Even though this will put a dent into your pay, the added benefits are worth it. Orientation leaders are also the first candidates for resident advisers. Resident advisers receive free or reduced room and board while having to assist and plan fun activities for residents. Being first in line for this position will take considerable portions off of your tuition and provide you with a memorable college experience.
Ultimately, working is a privilege and not a right. While it is important to enjoy your job college is still a time for responsibility. Maintaining the balance between being a responsible adult and a fun loving teen will provide you with something much greater. Your college experience will surely be one to remember.
